Our local library is open!! Yay! Woo-hoo! It’s one of my favorite places to be. Put me in there and pick me up in a week!
My husband had a chance to go before I did, and he picked up a few books in hopes that one might hit home with me, too. So sweet!
At first glance none of them really spoke to me, but took another peek at the one he started (am I the only one who is always curious about what someone else is reading??), and was pulled in after reading the first few pages. “Your One Word” by Evan Carmichael has the tag line of “The powerful secret to creating a business and life that matter.”
Though the focus is on guidance for entrepreneurs (and he provides lots of it!), I feel this core exercise can be enlightening for anyone interested in self-growth.
“What makes you happy?”
Evan asks us to find the common theme that connects our answers to the questions he provides. That theme, becomes your “one word.” He states that it will give you a sense of purpose and help you change the world for the better. I list a number of mine below.
Here are a few of my answers:
Favorite book:
“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis. This book is magical! A childhood favorite that remains a favorite. The movie was great, too! A story of four children transformed by going through a closet at their uncles house that led them into the mysterious world of Narnia.
Favorite song:
Barcelona by Jo Amar (My mom is from Morocco and we grew up with his music playing non-stop. This one is great with the windows rolled down on a long open road - ahhh.... road trip, anyone?) It has the power to transport me to another place and transform my mood for the better.
Favorite quote:
This is my favorite, because it is extremely powerful in its seeming simplicity.
Here’s another I love:
Activities that make me come alive:
Time with family and friends. Helping others connect with their inner light. Writing, creating something new, painting, exploring new places, looking for treasure - at a flea market, or in an old bookshop or library. Watching the birds and butterflies that come to feed in my garden :)
Discovering my word: #Transform
At first I thought my common theme was the word Imagine, but after answering taking the time to really think them through, I felt that Transformation was more accurate. I then took it a step further, and decided on TRANSFORM.
While positive transformation is definitely something admirable to aim for, it is the choice and intention to transform that has us set the act of transformation in motion.
To me the word TRANSFORM brings to mind a blank canvas, a blank sheet of paper; it gets me excited to create. It is the adventure, the challenge, the opportunity to explore ideas and rise above. To create something more beautiful and meaningful than was there before; be it a work of art, or a better relationship.
There are the times, of course, when some things in life do not seem so pretty. Those hold the opportunity for greatest transformation. I believe that is what God intends us to do. To do the work. To be brave, to trust and believe that it is for our good, whether we can see it right then or not. To have faith that we will get through, and grow from the circumstance, especially when we set the intention to actively transform. It is part of our purpose to transform into the incredible beings we were meant to be, by acknowledging the beautiful souls we already are.
Take the time to explore the questions for yourself.
What is your One Word? How do you plan for it to add meaning going forward in your life?
Sending clouds of love,
LL
